It does not deal with individual organs in seclusion or isolation; rather it tends to treat the body as a whole system. Moreover, it does not intend to provide a temporary relief to ailing organs, but try to fight against the diseases and help the body to get rid of them.

Dr. Shyamendra, a senior consultant at New Delhi says, “ In Ayurveda pathy we study that man is a composite structure of  body, mind and spirit. Hence it is imperative to make a psychosomatic analysis of a patient and then try to restore the intrinsic harmony of all the three elements. An Ayurvedic doctor does it by locating the seat of the disease in body while determining the type of the patient. He tries to treat the human being as an whole with chosen medication carefully.”

A thorough examination of a patient is done with Nadi Parikshan which means feeling the pulse rate at a time. Then the physician tries to recognize whether the disorder or the disease belongs to Vata, Kapha or Pitta.  Pt. Ram Prasad acharya from Haridwar says, “To be familiar with the concepts of Nadipariksha , one should  know about the  systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), Nadi and Dhamani in a body.   SIRS refers to frequently response of the immune system to infection. Nadi examination refers to the three parameters of pulse for example size or volume denotes the condition of  blood vessel wall, rapidity indicates condition and working of heart and irregularity of the pulse refers to heart problem.”

Nadiparksha is a scientific method of examination of nerves. It very much includes the venous pulsation in the wrist. Even more than that it includes the study of life process which is responsible for living of a human being. Hence Nadi is considered as Jiva Sakshi, the evidence of life. Acharya Anant Kumar says, “  Nadi gets influenced by many aspects of  body. Mainly the three doshas (Vata, Kapha and Pitta) during the Nadi investigation, we try to ascertain the imbalance of the these doshas. Therefore it is not only counts the pulse rate but focuses on the doshas. To be expert in Nadi pariksha one should have a good yogic power such as concentration of mind. After knowing the same, a suitable ayurvedic method is used to reset the disorder in a body.”

The Ayurvedic therapy either recommends the system of disease causing elements or brings about the new elements to enhance body’s own defense mechanism.  There are medicines to maintain the optimum level of well being. These medicines can be taken orally or applied locally, or inhaled. Dr. Chakresh Kumar tells that Ayurveda obtains medication from the nature.  Minerals, plants, herbs have mostly contributed to the treasure of medicines. Thousands of plants are recognized as medicinal plants since ancient times in India. After a long time ongoing experimentation , Indian sages have come to the conclusions about the efficacy of different minerals, herbs and plants. Particular drugs are prepared from various parts like root, flower, bark, stem, leaf and fruits. More over most of the medicine are free from the side effects or reactions unless they are used indiscriminately.
